Start with the big picture
The CFA Program has three levels. Each one has its own exam and you register for one at a time. Clear Level I and you can move to Level II. Clear that and you’re on to Level III. Everything happens online and in English and the money goes out in US dollars. Most Indian candidates take the paper at a Prometric centre in a nearby city. One more thing worth knowing. CFA registration is only open for certain windows at any given time so what you can book today may not match what a friend booked last year.
Here’s the part people miss. The CFA exam process runs in two stages. You register and pay first. Then you book a seat at a test centre. Two stages and two separate cut off dates. Skip the second one and you’ve paid for nothing.
Timing matters too. CFA Institute talks about 300 hours of study for each level. Spread that over four to six months and it feels doable. Cram it into six weeks and it doesn’t. So pick your window first and work backwards from there.
