First, which CMA?
Quick clarification because people mix it up. The one I mean is the US CMA, which comes from the IMA, the Institute of Management Accountants in America. Think of the finance people sitting inside a company. They work out budgets, track costs, check how a business unit is doing and help managers choose what to do next. Audit and client tax returns aren’t really their thing. You sit two exams. One is about planning, performance and analytics, and the other is about strategic financial management. To actually get the credential you also need a bachelor’s degree or an approved qualification, and two years of relevant work behind you.
