What’s changing in 2027
On 19 August 2026 AICPA announced that the CPA exam will move to a new platform in July 2027. The screen will look different too. You’ll notice it in how you jump from one question to the next and in how the page is set out.
Three things come with this. A short pause in testing and a new look and feel and a different score release plan for the first 12 months.
Key dates
- July 1 to 11, 2027: Blackout. No exam appointments.
- July 12, 2027: Testing starts again on the new platform.
- 12 months after launch: Scores come out on a different schedule.
AICPA calls these target dates so they can still change.
Why is AICPA doing this
AICPA says the new system will be easier to keep up to date as technology changes. It also talks about better accessibility and faster processing and a more modern exam experience.
