What a CFO Really Does
CFO means chief financial officer. They handle everything to do with money inside the company and answer directly to the CEO. If the company needs cash this week or a plan for the next five years the CFO is the one who sorts it out.
The cfo roles and responsibilities mostly come down to these:
- Making budgets and planning how money will be spent
- Checking that accounts and reports are right and on time
- Handling tax and rules and audits
- Raising money from banks or investors when the company needs it
- Watching risks like rising costs or falling sales
- Advising the CEO and the board before big decisions
- Leading the whole finance team
As you can see this is not a desk job where you only do accounts. A CFO is in the room when the big calls are made like opening a new plant or buying another company.
