What an IFRS course teaches
IFRS decides how revenue and leases and financial instruments and group accounts appear in a company’s books. Day to day you spend more time using the rules on real cases than learning paragraphs by heart. When someone talks about IFRS certification they usually mean the ACCA route since employers abroad know that name best. Other routes exist but they differ a lot in depth and cost.
Main routes compared
You will mostly see four routes in India. The IFRS diploma course from ACCA goes deepest. The other three are lighter or made for specific groups.
Route | Run by | Who it suits | Exam | Rough cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Diploma in IFRS (DipIFR) | ACCA | Working accountants after a global credential | A single computer based exam of 3 hours 15 minutes | Around ₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000 in total |
Certificate in IFRS | ACCA | Beginners who want an easier start | One multiple choice exam of one hour | Around ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 |
Certificate Course on Ind AS | ICAI | Chartered Accountants only | 60 hour course with assessment | About ₹10,000 |
Certificate on IFRS | ICAI | Graduates with an accountancy background | Exam based | About ₹8,000 to ₹15,000 |
Costs are rough and different providers quote different numbers so use them for comparison and not for budgeting.
