Getting your Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification is a professional course that is no easy feat. It requires knowledge from a lot of different subjects, and the CFP syllabus and exam are here to help you do just that. The certification has two different pathways for exams: Regular or Challenge status.
To become a certified financial planner through this pathway, students must first pass five exams.
The results of these tests combine to form six modules, which act as a strong foundation for a financial career. This is the more immersive option as it helps them get a well-rounded understanding of their job. The Regular Pathway is made up of four-part exams, which each focus on different aspects of financial planning.
- Part I: Insurance Planning and Risk Analysis
- Part II: Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning
- Part III: Investment Planning
- Part IV: Estate Planning and Tax Planning
The examinations are conducted on the NSE Academy Certification in the Financial Market platform to actualize this journey. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is pivotal in facilitating the examinations conducted through NSE centers and a network of designated sites across India. This ensures accessibility and convenience for candidates from various regions, bolstering the inclusive nature of the CFP certification process.
The CFP Challenge Status Pathway is designed for candidates who hold certain advanced qualifications, like CA, CFA, CS, LLB, PG, Actuary, etc., and are seeking CFP certification. The Challenge Status Pathway involves a different exam pattern than the Regular Pathway.
- Single Exam: Unlike the Regular Pathway, where candidates must pass five exams covering different modules, candidates in the Challenge Status Pathway must clear only the Advanced Financial Planning (AFP) exam.
- Advanced Financial Planning (AFP) Exam: This exam tests candidates on their comprehensive understanding of advanced financial planning topics mentioned in the CFP syllabus. It covers areas such as risk analysis, insurance planning, investment planning, tax planning, retirement planning, estate planning, etc.
- Relevant Work Experience: Candidates for the Challenge Status Pathway must not only pass the AFP exam but also have appropriate work experience in the financial industry. The specific qualifications for this experience could change depending on the organization or institution to which you are applying.
- CFP Certification: Candidates who pass the AFP exam and meet the work experience requirements can become certified as CFPs, signifying their advanced training and skills in financial planning.
